1. Boston Shaker

The Boston shaker is one of the most commonly used tools by bartenders. It consists of two parts: a large metal cup and a small metal cup.

Its main purpose is to mix and shake cocktails, such as the Martini and Old Fashioned.

2. Measuring Cup

A measuring cup is an indispensable tool in bartending. It's used to accurately measure various liquid ingredients. Common measuring cups have different graduations, typically ranging from 1/2 ounce to 2 ounces. This allows bartenders to quickly and accurately pour the required amount of liquids and ingredients.

For bartending beginners, a measuring cup ensures the correct proportions are maintained with each pour, preventing the cocktail from being too strong or too weak, which would affect its flavor.

3. Strainer

A strainer is a crucial tool in bartending. It's used to remove ice, fruit pulp, or other impurities from cocktails, ensuring the liquid in your glass is clear and clean. There are two common types of strainers:

  • Hawthorne strainer: Features a spring and filters out coarser impurities, such as ice cubes, orange peel, lemon peel, or herb leaves.
  • Fine Mesh Strainer: Finer and typically used to filter out smaller particles.

Order of use: First, use the Hawthorne strainer to remove large ice cubes and fruit peels from the shaker, maintaining the basic structure of the cocktail. Then, use the tea strainer for a second filtration to further remove smaller impurities. This is suitable for cocktails that incorporate multiple ingredients and fruit pulp, such as Caipirinha, Fruit Punch, and Vodka Grapefruit Soda.

4. Bar Spoon

A bar spoon is a long-handled cocktail spoon typically used to stir cocktails that don't require shaking. It can also be used to gently stir syrups and alcohol, or to stir mixtures of liquor and ice.

Besides helping to stir drinks, a bar spoon can also serve as a garnish in some cocktails. Its long handle ensures easy access to the bottom of the glass or metal cup.

5. Ice Tongs

Ice tongs are tools used to pick up ice cubes. They not only make it easier to handle ice but also maintain the hygiene of the drink by preventing direct hand contact with the ice, reducing bacterial contamination.

Skyscorps Ice tongs are made of food-grade stainless steel, making them sturdy and durable. When used, they quickly place ice cubes into the glass, helping to cool the drink rapidly.

6. Muddler

A muddler is used to crush ingredients such as fruits, herbs, or sugar cubes to release their flavor and aroma. When making classic mojitos or old-fashioned cocktails, a muddlestick can be used to crush mint leaves, sugar, and citrus, helping these ingredients blend and release a richer flavor.

7. Pourer

A pourer is a small tool, usually attached to the neck of a bottle, to help control the flow when pouring. Its main function is to prevent spills, control the pouring speed, and ensure that every drop is precisely poured into the shaker or glass.
